International symposium for “Hanoi capital construction master plan to 2030 and vision to 2050”
This symposium was held by PPJ, VIAP and HUPI in Hanoi from 21-22/4/2009. The symposium had drawn participation of over 200 specialists from universities, institutes, organs and organization from abroad and Vietnam. The program of the symposium was divided into 6 sections: - Cultural and heritage preservation - Social development - Cultural and city branding - Pre-city agriculture - Transportation, infrastructure and urban management - Hanoi and sustainable environmental future 12 speeches have been presented by the foreign speakers in the conference. All they have been living and working in Hanoi for a long time and have deep knowledge about the city. According to the opinion of the foreign specialists, Hanoi has specific feature. After expansion, there is a diversified system of villages, including traditional craft villages producing silk, rattan and ceramic items…in Hanoi. Hanoi contains valuable treasure such as the ancient quarter, the French quarter and religious buildings. Hanoi has unique identity of low-rise buildings, trees, lakes, food streets… But to draw investment and tourism the residents should realize the statue of their city and participate in construction, development, management and advertize the city’s image. Mr. Tran Ngoc Chinh, former Deputy Minister of Construction, member of Steering Committee for planning on, and investment in construction of Hanoi capital region highly appreciated this international symposium. It was a successful conference with the participation of many experienced prestigious specialists who has deep knowledge about Vietnam. They had presented high quality speeches concerning symposium’s issues. These speeches provided valuable information for the group of the consultants on process of planning making. These speeches had not only contributed in terms of speciality but also expressed their love for Hanoi and their hope to build modern Hanoi with specific features of a thousand-year-old capital.
