Trong kỳ họp thường niên thứ 34 từ ngày 25/7-3/8 tại thủ đô Brasilia của Brazil, Tổ chức Giáo dục, Khoa học và Văn hóa của Liên hợp quốc (UNESCO) đã công nhận 21 địa danh là di sản thế giới mới trong tổng số 39 địa danh được đề cử xét duyệt lần này.

Trong số các địa danh được công nhận lần này có 15 Di sản Văn hóa, năm Di sản Thiên nhiên và một Di sản Văn hóa-thiên nhiên. Đợt công nhận này của Ủy ban Di sản của UNESCO đã nâng tổng số Di sản Thế giới lên thành 911 di sản.
