On March 30, 2009, in Tam Ky town, Quang Nam province, Quang Nam department of science and technology established provincial-level professional scientific council to evaluate and take over the results of research project “Research to propose the models of Quang Nam urban villages”, which Dr.Arch Nguyen Dinh Toan – Director of Vietnam Institute of Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning was responsible for.

The project had systematized traditional villages, handicraft villages, commercial villages in Quang Nam – a province in Central key economic zone with rapid urbanization tempo and many potentials of economy and tourism. As well as to evaluate current situation of traditional and modern factors in all fields. On the project, the relation, effect between hamlets, villages and towns, between village and towns have also been studied. On the basic of surveying the models of urban villages in some regional countries and in the world in parallel with practical survey in Vietnam to draw the lessons in construction of urban villages during the process of present society.

The project has proposed 2 models of Quang Nam urban villages originating from current factors of available traditional village (1st model) and new rural population point in general development planning of the province (2nd model)… For the models of Quang Nam urban villages, the project also set up the scale of buildings such as housing, public building, organization of landscape space as well as management policy and exploitation.

2 pilot models in Quang Nam have been proposed: in Thanh Ha ancient ceramic craft village (Hoi An) (applied 1st model); in Hamlet No2, Tam Tien commune, Nui Thanh and Western plot of Cua Dai guild, Hoi An (applied 2nd model).

The project has been highly appreciated due to its scientism, feasibility, reality. The project contains topical questions, is one of aspects to be deployed in order to carry out the Resolution No.26/NQ-TW of the 7th Congress by the Session X Central Executive committee on agriculture, farmers and rural areas in Vietnam. The project has diversified documentation. The results of the project could be applied in Quang Nam then propagandized in the whole country.

The project has been approved with excellent results.
