In the context of fast economic growth, drastic urbanization and international integration of Vietnam in the post-WTO era, in accordance with the orientation of the Prime Minister on strengthening capacity in the field of urban planning education and training, the Urban & Architectural Institute (UAI) – University of Civil Engineering (UCE) has been established by the Decision of the Minister of Education & Training (MOET) to become an organization that links professors, scientists, researchers, urban managers, organizations from domestic and oversea in co-effort to provide high-quality research, training and consultancy services in response to the contemporary needs of the Vietnamese society.

MISSION

UAI will contribute to the making of urban planning and architectural design in Vietnam more advanced, more characterized; toward sustainable development of urban areas of Vietnam.

GENERAL TASKS

General tasks of UAI include research, training and consultancy on architecture urban field.

FUNCTIONS

Training

Post-Graduate training: provide international-standard programs of Master course and Doctoral course in coordination with foreign supervisors.

Supplementary & Upgraded training: Target mid-career staffs who need updated knowledge and information on urban and architectural fields.

High quality Urban Engineer: Take part in ‘High quality Urban Engineer’ program in UCE with sponsorship of the French Government.

Taylor-made Mid-career training: Design and conduct short, middle and long courses based on orders in the fields of urban and architecture to wide ranges of trainees.

Training courses are provided in the main following fields:

- Ecology & sustainability in Architecture and Urban
- Architectural and urban conservation
- Urban management and governance
- Urban and landscape design
- Urban engineering
- Urban housing
- Urban environmental management

Research

Conduct scientific researches independently or jointly in the fields of urban and architecture. UAI research partners include:

- Ordering Organizations such as Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Education and Training, Department of Science and Technology, and technical departments of local governments in Hanoi and other localities.

- Co-ordinating partners such as National Institute for Architecture – Urban & Rural Planning (MOC), Vietnam Association of Architects (VAA), Vietnam Urban Association, Vietnam Urban Planning & Development Association (VUPDA), Society of Vietnam Construction Associations, and other institutes.

- International partners such as oversea universities, institutes, organizations like JICA, WB, UN-habitat, IMV, AusAID, …

Field of research may include:

- Ecology & sustainability in architecture and Urban
- Architectural and urban conservation
- Urban management and governance
- Urban and landscape design
- Urban engineering
- Urban housing
- Urban environmental management

Consultancy Services:

- Provide consultancy services in architectural design, urban planning and design by applying new technology, know-how and scientific output into practices. We focus on technology transfer and multi disciplinary collaboration in our services.

- Play the role as consulting agent and social critic on many aspects of urban development and architecture.

UAI will be a prestigious organization in the field of urban and architectural research, training and consultancy, effectively contributing to the development and international integration of Vietnam

UAI commits to:

- Update and apply advanced, innovative methods in research, training and consultancy in the field of urban and architecture.
- Provide high quality, international standard research and training programs.
- Be the knowledge-bridge between UCE and domestic and international partners, making efforts toward the robust and sustainable development of urban Vietnam.
- Contribute to strengthening capacity and improving awareness of the whole society of Vietnam on urban architecture, planning and management.
