The IMV was established in March 2001 by the Hanoi People's Committee and the Region Ile-de-France in their understanding of international cooperation. It aims to improve the skills of the municipal clients in the field of urban planning (planning, regulation, project methodology) and management of urban services (regulation, contracting with delegates, quality service , information for users ...).
The action of the IMV is based on sharing experiences and know-how between professionals from both communities. The IMV makes the interface by organizing seminars for policy makers and training sessions for technical personnel but also by funding research on new issues in Vietnam and pilot projects. In addition, IMV provides an important mission of disseminating knowledge by translating and publishing books french professionals as well as research work conducted in urban Vietnam. The Documentation Center of the IMV contains more than 400 books, scientific papers and studies dealing with urban planning in France and Vietnam.
The interventions focus on the themes of urban and regional planning, public transport (bus, subway, train), access to water and sanitation in peri-urban area and the protection of built heritage.
