Default Vietnam to modernize land management system

Vietnam has finalized legislation relating to databases on land in 54 out of 63 cities and provinces nationwide, paving the way for efforts to modernize the country’s land management system supported by the government and the World Bank (WB).

The Vietnam Land Administration Project (VLAP), built by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has a total investment of US$100 million, with US$75 million being financed by the WB and the remainder by the Vietnamese government.

The project has been carried out in Hanoi, the northern provinces of Hung Yen and Thai Binh, the central provinces of Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa, and the Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang, Ben Tre and Vinh Long since 2008. It will last until 2013.

The project is aimed at developing a perfect land management system in the targeted cities and provinces and to help people utilize land information services, including instructions on land use right certificates.

Currently, 35 cities and provinces have approved the VLAP project.
