AUC 2019: "Urban Futures: Critical Transformations in Asian Cities"

Scholars are cordially invited to 15th International Asian Urbanization Conference (AUC) to be organized and hosted on November 27-30, 2019 by the Vietnamese-German University (VGU) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

VGU is emerging as a leading research university in South East Asia and a vibrant participant in the global scientific university.  Since its establishment in 2008 in collaboration with a key group of German higher education institutions, VGU offers an outstanding education to students to complement its status as a research university. The conference setting in Ho Chi Minh City offers an exciting and dynamic megapolitan context that serves as a laboratory to study urbanization, development, and innovative planning. It serves as Vietnam’s leading economic driver.


This conference is the latest iteration the long running Asian Urbanization Conference series that dates to 1985 with the most recent successful conferences in Bangkok, Thailand (King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology-Ladkrabang; 2018) and Yogyakarta, Indonesia (Gadjah Mada University; 2015), and Varanasi, India (Banares Hindu University; 2013).  Local organizers have collaborated to host each of these conferences in collaboration with the Asian Urban Research Association (AURA).

AUC 2019:

The primary purpose of AUC is to promote the academic study of urbanization, urban growth about the Asian cities. The conferences are biennial and have resulted in many publications. The scholarly legacy of the organizers and the successful history of these conferences have served to AUC brand as the recognized quality for diversity scholars and participants across the globe. This year, the AUC 2019 is expecting to attract the scholar worldwide to join us in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and get a more in-depth knowledge in the topic of "Critical Transformation of Asian Cities." The conference will present how Asian cities are preparing for this transformation as a fast-changing Asia. The case of Vietnam, "Draft of New ten-year Plan of Urbanization Policy" will be discussed too.

The AUC also aims to the public and private organizations to express the knowledge of recent research that how the transformation of urban planning has influenced their work and respond to changes and proactively work to manage risk, capitalize on opportunities and drive long-term value creation.
