The British Council in co-operation with the The thao Van hoa Newspaper is launching an exciting competition called ‘Awakened Spaces’. They are asking Hanoi residents to identify buildings, streets, and other public spaces that they would like to see transformed or improved.
Based on successful revitalisation of cities in the UK over the last 10 years through public art and art interventions, the initiative will see UK and Vietnamese artists collaborating to transform public spaces.
The transformations could be temporary or permanent, architectural or graphic, performances or installations, projections or multimedia, or even all or none of the above.
The Hanoi public is invited to submit photos of places they feel need transformation, explain why they feel the space could benefit from tranformation, and make suggestions. People are also invited to vote for their favourites.
2009 will see an exhibition of selected submissions, a major debate about urban public spaces in Hanoi, and the actual transforation of some of the spaces.
And there are Prizes!
The first prize winner will receive 20,000,000 VND.
Other 4 runners up with prize of VND 5,000,000/each.
One prize of VND 5,000,000 for the most voted idea.
